ONE LIGHT GLOBAL COVID SUPPORT

COVID-19 on HOPI NATION

COVID-19 cases have been rising rapidly on Hopi Nation again in 2021.

Our indigenous communities have suffered from pandemics before and are extremely vulnerable due to living situations, health issues, limited access to fresh foods and many other factors effecting native peoples. Hopi Nation is surrounded surrounded by Navajo Nation, which is also being widely effected and has had high numbers of confirmed cases of COVID-19.

There have been many deaths as well as hospitalization of numerous village residents. The loss of elders and the depth of knowledge that they possess can be devastating to indigenous culture and to future generations.

We are a small team and work with elders of various clans based around, but not limited to Shungopavi Village on Second Mesa. Since the Nation began to experience the effects of the pandemic and knowing full well the dangers of such a wide spread situation to a small and at risk population, we have asked for support from our amazing supporters and One Light family to raise funds especially for essential food supplies, water, immune support, sanitary goods, supply of much needed masks and more. To each and every one of you that have given so generously, we thank you.

The response has been truly inspiring and as the Nation has been on lockdown for months, we have been able to do large food and supply drops, that have assisted anywhere from 50-200 families.

We send prayers and respect to all of the various organizations, groups, councils, and wider public who are supporting and working for the safety of indigenous and all peoples during this time. To the incredible and tireless group of elders with which we have the privilege of working with for the future of the Hopi children and all life, we honor you.
